Since 1989 the Cleft Palate Foundation (CPF) has funded research related to cleft and craniofacial anomalies. Each year CPF offers five grants to support basic science and clinical research in the areas of biology and etiology, therapy, innovative advances in technology and other topics related to cleft palate and craniofacial disorders. The sponsors of these grants are CPF, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Rosemont, Illinois, the Children’s Craniofacial Association of Dallas, Texas, and Synthes.

To date, CPF has awarded over half a million dollars in research funding. The grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 in one of four designated categories and each is awarded for a period of one year. Many researchers have found that the CPF grants provide the seed money for projects that will serve as an impetus for future funding from larger granting agencies.

The deadline for applications is January 15. The announcement of funding will be made at the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association’s annual luncheon, where the researchers and their institutions will be recognized.
