Criteria for Judging Applications
Quality of Proposed Research Project
- Relevance of the proposed research to the field of cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial abnormalities.
- Significance or importance of the proposed research in the field of health care.
- Originality of the proposed research project.
- Scientific basis of the proposed research project, as indicated either by literature cited or, preferably, through the description of pilot research related to the proposed project.
- Feasibility of carrying out and completing the research in a one-year time frame.
- Support of the institution, including availability of facilities, supplies, equipment, auxiliary personnel, library, etc., as needed.
- Guidance or professional associations during the period of the proposed research program.
- Commitment that the proposed research projects or experience will lead to publications and/or continued research in the problem area.
Professional Effort
The level of commitment of the investigator to the proposed project must be stated in relationship to the total percentage of professional activity.
Previous Professional Record
The applicant’s curriculum vitae will be evaluated for degree(s), fellowships, awards, professional memberships, publications and contributions to health activities.
Promise as a Researcher, Teacher or Clinician (Junior Investigator Research Grant Only)
The applicant will be judged on the basis of demonstrated commitment and promise as an investigator. A clear statement of long range professional goals should be made in the application. The applicant’s commitment to teaching and research related to the cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial abnormalities area will be an important factor in the selection process.
