Since 1989 the Cleft Palate Foundation (CPF) has funded research related to cleft and craniofacial anomalies. To date, CPF has awarded over half a million dollars in research funding. The grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 and each is awarded for a period of one year. Many researchers have found that the CPF grants provide the seed money for projects that will serve as an impetus for future funding from larger granting agencies.
The deadline for applications is February 15. The announcement of funding will be made at the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association’s annual luncheon, where the researchers and their institutions will be recognized.

In order to be considered, the original research grant application and 11 copies must be postmarked or time and date stamped on or before February 15 (if February 15 is a Sunday, the deadline becomes February 16). Please mail to:

FORMAT:
The application must be clear, readily legible, and conform to the following two requirements:
- Use standard font (e.g., Times New Roman, Universe, Arial) no smaller than 11 point. Appendices, figures, charts, tables, figure legends, and footnotes may be smaller in size but must be readily legible.
- Margins of Research Plan must equal 1 inch.
BUDGET INSTRUCTIONS:
- Request no more than 1 year of support.
- Select an appropriate beginning and end date for the research being done.
- It is not necessary to include the cost of copies, faxes, or phone calls.
- Do not request publication costs or travel costs for presentation of results.
RESEARCH PLAN:
The purpose of the Research Plan is to answer the following questions:
- What do you intend to do?
- Why is the work important?
- What has already been done?
- How are you going to do the work?
For Junior Investigator Applicants:
If you are applying as a Junior Investigator, please provide a reference letter from your mentor. This letter is to be submitted directly from your mentor under separate cover to the CPF National Office by February 15th.
