Two Years Old
Since I wrote Hunter’s story, he’s had his first surgery to repair his bilateral cleft lip (at three months old). Now he’s two years old, has two surgeries completed and is a big brother! I thought I would let everyone know how he is doing.
One Year Old
We have become a part of Operation Smile. We have been invited to speak at high schools and to attend Operation Smile’s gala and fundraiser in the Los Angeles area. It has been a huge blessing for me to share and learn about clefts.
Last summer Hunter had his second surgery to repair the palate and his nose. It was not one hundred percent successful. He has two fistulas on the roof of his mouth and the surgeons won’t fix them until the summer of 2011. So, in the mean time, Hunter goes to speech therapy twice a week and has learned sign language (which he taught himself by watching Baby Signing Time!).
Hunter is very outgoing and vocal; the cleft in no way has got this kid down in learning anything. He is so darn smart! He also has all but two of his teeth where the clefts cut through. Everything from eating to getting sick has been very normal for a two-year-old. I have zero complaints and love the Lord for the amazing little boy He has given me.
